WINTER CARE
It is no secret that the cold winter months can cause damage to existing masonry. While masonry is a highly durable & attractive method of building, conscientious homeowners will want to extend the life of their existing masonry to the maximum possible. Here are some tips to make this winter an easy one for your brick and stone.

• Seal Masonry every other year with a water
  proofing masonry sealer. Sealer will help prevent water from damaging the masonry during freezing temperatures.
  
  
• Do not put salt or kitty litter down on masonry work, especially concrete. While this does melt snow and ice, it can cause major damage to the masonry work underneath. Try using sand instead, it allows for safe footing along walkways, but does not damage masonry.
  
  
• If masonry repairs are needed, it is best to do it before the winter freeze. Minor damage can lead to more damage if left untreated.

If masonry repair work is needed, don’t delay.  Masonry Specialist, LLC can perform masonry work during the winter months as well.  So long as the temperature is 28 degrees and rising, special additives can be added to the masonry mixture to accelerate the setting or drying time of mortar or cement.  Rather than weakening the final product, the additive actually strengthens it.  Keep yourself warm during the winter months, but be sure to care for your home as well.
